NAG-TIE bilang Movie Actress of the Year sina Kathryn Bernardo at Sarah Geronimo sa katatapos na 35th Star Awards for Movies 2019 nitong nakaraang gabi sa Resorts World Manila. Si Ogie Alcasid naman ang Star Awards Best Actor for the movie Kuya Wes.
Iginawad ang parangal kay Kathryn para sa madamdaming matured role niya sa The Hows Of Us, samantalang si Sarah ay nakitaan ng kakaibang pagganap sa Miss Granny.
Ayon naman sa acceptance speech ni Ogie, ang karakter niya sa Kuya Wes ay tipikal na kuwento ng isang ordinaryong tao na gustong makatulong sa nangangailangan. Tinalo ni Ogie sina Piolo Pascual, Paolo Contis, Noni Buencamino, Atom Araullo, at Eddie Garcia para sa nasabing category. Dinaig naman nina Kathryn at Sarah ang mga beteranong sina Iza Calzado, Anne Curtis, Glaiza De Castro, Alessandra De Rossi, Nadine Lustre, Gina Pareño, Gloria Romero, at Judy Ann Santos.
The awards night of the Star Awards for Movies was held last night, June 2, at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila, hosted by Iza Calzado, Gelli de Belen, Arci Muñoz, Aljur Abrenica, Robi Domingo, at ng bagong Best Actress na si Kathryn.
Kathryn was thrilled to be hosting the Star Awards for Movies for the first time. Robi said it was a great honor for him to be joined by the Blockbuster Queen. Robi then quipped, “Hail to the Queen!”
In celebration of the 100 Years of Philippine Cinema this year, the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) presented the “Mga Natatanging Bituin Ng Siglo” Special Awards to iconic names who have shared unforgettable and remarkable contributions to Philippine cinema.
The 35th PMPC Star Awards for Movies 2019 chose to honor the following celebrities (in alphabetical order): Nora Aunor, Tirso Cruz III, Christopher De Leon, Joseph Estrada, Eddie Garcia, Anita Linda, Niño Muhlach, Ramon Revilla Sr., Susan Roces, Gloria Romero, Philip Salvador, and Vilma Santos.
Sa 12 “Mga Natatanging Bituin Ng Siglo”, hindi nakasipot sina Vilma, Nora, Anita, Linda, Mayor Erap, at Susan, habang ang mga dumating na legendary honorees were honored during a special production tribute under the direction of Bert De Leon.
Senator-elect Bong Revilla made one of his first showbiz appearances by escorting his father, Ramon Revilla Sr.
Among those who personally accepted their awards as Natatanging Bituin were Eddie Garcia, Gloria, Christopher, Tirso, Phillip, and Niño.
The PMPC also gave honor and tribute to four of the pioneer, senior former Presidents of the Club by bestowing them the “Outstanding Pillars of PMPC” special award – a long-overdue recognition and appreciation for their loyalty and dedication to this group of entertainment journalists, for many years.
The recipients were: Ethel Ramos (PMPC President in 1969, 1970, and 1973), Ronald Constantino (PMPC President in 1974 and 1975), Letty Celi (PMPC President in 1988 and 1989), and Veronica Samio (PMPC President in 1990, 1991, and 1992).
Arjo Atayde was hailed as the Movie Supporting Actor of the Year for playing a drug lord in Buy Bust. Robi read his speech on his behalf because Arjo is currently in Singapore.
S a n y a Lopez was recognized for her movie Wild and Free.
The GMA-7 actress said in her acceptance speech, “Wow! New Movie Actress of the Year! ‘Di ko ine-expect ‘to.”
