Kailangan ng bansa ng mas maraming matatapang na kalalakihan at kababaihan para bantayan ang ating karagatan. Ito ang mensahe ng Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa 117th anniversary celebration ng Philippine Coast Guard sa Manila nitong Huwebes.

Inatasan ng Pangulo ang PCG na patuloy na bantayan ang maritime borders ng bansa at protektahan ang mamamayan sa mga bantang magmumula sa dagat.

“I urge the entire Philippine Coast Guard to build on its accomplishments and to continue its efforts in upholding our country’s maritime security,” ani Duterte.

“More than ever, we need brave men and women like you in safeguarding our seas and shores, especially at this period when our resources are becoming crucial to the progress of our economy,” aniya pa.

Nangako si Duterte na patuloy na palalakasin ang kapabilidad ng PCG sa law enforcement activities sa pagbili ng mga modernong kagamitan, at iba pa.

“Rest assured that while you heed the call of duty, the government remains steadfast in strengthening the capabilities of the PCG by raising its standards [through] streamlined infrastructure and modernized equipment,” aniya.

Kinilala rin ng Pangulo ang kontribusyon ng Coast Guard officers at enlisted men, sinabing hindi magtatagumpay ang PCG kung wala sila. “Please know that all your sacrifices are truly and greatly appreciated,” aniya.

Hinimok niya ang Coast Guard na manatiling nakapangako sa pagtupad sa kanilang tungkulin “as defenders of the land and protectors of our citizens.”
