Gumamit ng sobrang puwersa ang mga tauhan ng Philippine National Police (PNP) laban sa mga nagpoprotestang magsasaka na humihingi ng bigas sa Kidapawan noong Abril, at unang nagpaputok ng baril ang mga pulis, sinabi ng Commission on Human Rights (CHR).
Ang insidente sa Kidapawan noong Abril 1, 2016 ay nagresulta sa kamatayan ng dalawang nagpoprotesta, malubhang pagkasugat ng dalawang pulis, at pagtamo ng pinsala ng 179 pang magsasaka at pulis.
“The report found that excessive force was used by the PNP against the farmers-protesters, contrary to protocols prescribed in the police operations manual. Evidence gathered showed that the PNP fired the first (gun) shot. Worse, the arrest and detention of farmers-protesters were attended by excessive and unjustified force, which it said must be investigated and responsible persons, prosecuted,” saad sa inisyal na imbestigasyon ng CHR, na idinetalye ang mga pangyayari sa bayolenteng pagbuwag ng halos 3,000 nagpoprotesta sa Kidapawan-Davao Highway sa Kidapawan City, North Cotabato.
