Inilunsad ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) ang Balikbayan Action Center (BAC) nitong Sabado, Setyembre 13 bilang pagpoprotekta sa mga balikbayan shipments na ipinapadala ng Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). 

“This initiative demonstrates our firm resolve to protect the interests of overseas Filipinos. By ensuring that balikbayan boxes are treated with fairness and transparency, we honor their sacrifices and reaffirm our duty to serve them better,” saad ni Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno sa kaniyang statement. 

Kabilang sa mga gawain ng BAC ay ang pagsasagawa ng in-depth research at analysis ng mga isinumiteng concern na konektado sa proseso ng customs sa balikbayan boxes, at ang pag-aaral ng “best practices” mula sa ibang mga bansa para mapagtibay ang kahusayan at patas na pamamalakad sa mga proseso ng shipments. 

Ang BAC ay pinangungunahan ng Assessment and Operations Coordinating Group (AOCG), kung saan ang Assistant Commissioner, Post Clearance Audit Group (PCAG) ang tatayong spokesperson.

Kasama rin ang ilang representante mula Port Operations Service, Public Information and Assistance Division (PIAD), at iba pang kaugnay na ahensya. 

Direktiba rin ni Nepomuceno na kailangan ng BAC na magsumite ng inisyal na report sa loob ng 30 araw mula sa pagtanggap ng memorandum, na susundan ng mga buwanang update.

“By adopting this measure, the BOC demonstrates its resolve to pursue lasting solutions that go beyond its core mandate to enhance trade facilitation, strengthen border control, and improve collection of lawful revenues, by extending its efforts to safeguard the welfare of overseas Filipinos,” saad ng BOC.
