Sa rekomendasyon ng Department of Agriculture (DA), ibinaba ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., ang Executive Order (EO) 93 o ang direktibang nagsususpinde sa importasyon ng regular milled at well-milled rice sa bansa sa loob ng 60 na araw. 

Ayon kay PBBM, ang direktibang ito ay epektibo mula Setyembre 1 hanggang Oktubre 30, kung saan naglalayong protektahan ang agrikultural na sektor ng bansa. 

“According to DA, there is a need to suspend the importation of regular milled and well-milled rice for 60 days, which will coincide with the peak of harvest season, to enable the domestic market to absorb the local supply, stabilize prices, and help Filipino farmers sell their palay at a fair and reasonable price,” saad sa EO. 

Sa ilalim din ng direktiba, inaatasan ng Pangulo ang DA makipagtulungan sa Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev), at Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) bilang pagsusuri sa mga epekto ng suspensyon ng rice importation sa supply at presyo ng bigas.

“For this purpose, the DA, DEPDev, and DTI shall convene within 30 days upon effectivity of this Order to evaluate the effects of the suspension of importation on the supply and prices of rice in the country, and within 15 days therefrom submit a joint recommendation to the President, through the Executive Secretary,” ayon dito. 

Ang DA ay inatasan ding makipag-ugnayan sa Bureau of Customs at DTI para sa agarang paglalabas ng guidelines para epektibong maipatupad ang nasabing EO, kasama rito ang gampanin ng mga nasabing ahensya, at matagumpay na pagsasaakto ng implementasyong ito. 

Sa kaugnay na ulat, unang ipinahayag ni PBBM ang rice importation noong Agosto 6 kasunod ng rekomendasyon ni Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu-Laurel Jr. sa kasagsagan ng kaniyang state visit sa India.
