Iginiit ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) na patuloy nilang gagampanan ang kanilang mandatong protektahan ang mga matataas na lider ng bansa sa kabila ng pagtanggi ni Vice President Sara Duterte na tumanggap ng security replacements mula sa kanila.
Sa isang press briefing nitong Huwebes, Disyembre 12, sinabi ni AFP spokesperson Colonel Francel Margareth Padilla na sisiguraduhin nilang hindi makokomprimiso ang kaligtasan ni Duterte sa gitna ng plano nitong mag-hire ng private security services.
“Sa AFP, mandato po namin yun, na i-secure ang ating President and also our Vice President. It is our mission at the Presidential Security Command to protect the President, the Vice President, and other dignitaries from harm and embarrassment. And with this mission, we have to fulfill it to the letter,” ani Padilla.
“So we will not be divulging operational details on how this will ensue but we are ensuring that we will do our mandate accordingly to protect our top leaders accordingly,” saad pa niya.

Matatandaang noong Nobyembre 27 nang sabihin ni AFP chief General Romeo Brawner Jr. na pansamantalang papalitan ang Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG) ng mga bagong tauhan ng militar at pulisya upang matiyak umano ang epektibong seguridad para kay Duterte.
Samantala, sinabi ni Duterte nitong Miyerkules na sumulat siya kay Brawner at inihayag ditong hindi niya tatanggapin ang replacement mula sa militar.
