Opisyal nang idineklara ang Baler, Aurora bilang “Birthplace of Philippine Surfing,” ayon sa pahayag na inilabas ng Official Gazette.

Nag-lapse into a law umano ang Republic Act No. 11957, kilala rin bilang “An Act Recognizing the Municipality of Baler in the Province of Aurora as the ‘Birthplace of Philippine Surfing,” na walang lagda ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

“The State recognizes the role of tourism as a driver of economic growth and development and shall, therefore, pursue policies that cultivate, strengthen, and promote the heritage of our tourism destinations,” nakasaad sa Republic Act No. 11957.

“In recognition of its status as one of the premiere surfing sites in the country and for earning a significant spot in the history and origin of Philippine surfing, it is hereby declared that the Municipality of Baler in the Province of Aurora be the Birthplace of Philippine Surfing,” dagdag nito.

Nagkakaroon ang lalawigan ng Aurora ng taunang surfing competition upang paunlarin umano ang lumalagong surfing community.

Nagsimula ang surfing sa probinsiya noong 1972 nang matuklasan umano ng surfer na si Steve Scott ang mga alon sa Baler.
