Pakikinabangan ng publiko ang mungkahing pagpapatayo ng central office ng Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Ito ang tiniyak ni Comelec chairman George Garcia at sinabing ang pagpapatayo ng kanilang headquarters ay nangangahulugang hindi na sila magbabayad ng mula₱70 milyon hanggang₱75 milyong upa ng kanilang opisina.
“If you’re going to total or summarize all the expenses incurred for purposes of leasing this property, it would cater indeed to the benefit of the public that the Comelec will build its own building rather than spend a lot of money for purposes of renting the different places,” pagdidiin ni Garcia.
“Practically makatitipid nang sobra ang publiko,” anito.
Aniya, maaaring itayo ang gusali sa nakatiwang-wang na lupain ng ahensya sa Macapagal Avenue sa Pasay City.
Makatutulong din aniya sa isinusulong na "transparency at integrity" ng Comelec kung pagsasamahin sa isang lugar ang pasilidad at tanggapan nito.
“Will that benefit the public? Definitely surely. Because during the election lagi na lang kinukuwestiyon, we cannot observe, we cannot watch whatever the Comelec is doing, so kung nasa iisang area lang po kami, nagagawa po namin lahat yung, at mae-ensure namin ang transparency,” sabi pa ng opisyal.
