Labing-anim na panukala tungkol sa Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression (SOGIE) ang tinalakay sa online meeting ng House Committee on Women and Gender Equality nitong Miyerkules.

Pinamunuan ni Bukidnon Rep. Maria Lourdes Acosta-Alba ang pagdinig at sila’y nagkasundo na i-adopt ang working draft ng third at final reading version ng House Bill 4982 (SOGIE Equality Act) noong 17th Congress para sa kasalukuyang SOGIE bills.

Dumalo ang mga resource persons mula sa iba’t ibang sektor para sa diskusyon para makalikha ng isang komprehensibo at pantay na anti-discrimination bill.

Ipinaliwanag naman ni Bataan Rep. Geraldine Roman na ang SOGIE anti-discrimination bills ay hindi katulad ng same sex marriage at gender recognition bills.

“One thing is sure, hindi tayo pwedeng magpikit-pikitan sa isang katotohanan that has been staring us in the eyes for several decades already, at sabihin na hindi nag-eexist ang discrimination because it does happen,” ani Roman.

“What is really paramount at this point in essence is correcting imbalances in the laws to protect our LGBTQI+ Filipino citizens. To protect them from discrimination, harassment and bullying, so we are just working on the basic legal infrastructure that will ensure equality among Filipino citizens of whatever gender orientation,” ayon naman kay Acosta-Alba.
