Sinabon ng mga kongresista ngayong Lunes ang mga opisyal ng Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System at Manila Water Company Inc., at hinimok ang mga itong magsipagbitiw na lang sa kanilang tungkulin dahil sa umano’y “grave incompetence and negligence” kaugnay ng matinding kakapusan sa tubig sa ilang lugar sa Metro Manila at Rizal.

Sa pagdinig sa water crisis, sinabi ng ilang kasapi ng House Committee on Metro Manila Development, sa pangunguna ni Quezon City Rep. Winston Castelo, at ng House Committee on Housing and Urban Development ni Negros Occidental Rep. Albee Benitez, na dapat na mag-resign na lang ang mga opisyal ng MWSS at Manila Water sa kabiguan ng mga itong tuparin ang kanilang obligasyon sa publiko.

Iginiit naman ni MWSS Chief Regulator Patrick Lester Ty sa joint panel na hindi maaaring magpatupad ng multa ang ahensiya laban sa Manila Water, kahit pa ang kumpanya “has violated their mandate to provide 24/7 water.”

“What we can do is we can disallow the expenses that the concessionaire incurred during this time. That is the limit of the Regulatory Office,” sabi ni Ty.

Sinabi naman ni Manila Water President Ferdinand dela Cruz na “willing” siyang tanggapin ang anumang parusa, kasabay ng paghingi ng paumanhin sa isang-linggong water crisis.

“I am holding myself fully accountable for the sudden drop in our service levels to your constituents whom we have consistently served over the past 21 years with 24/7 water availability and sufficient water pressure. March 6, 2019 is a date I will not forget as president of Manila Water,” ani Dela Cruz.

Nangako siyang paiigtingin pa ang water availability sa loob ng walo hanggang 12 oras sa pagtatapos ng Marso, at tiniyak na babalik na sa normal ang serbisyo nila sa East Zone sa “end of May.”

“Gen. Reynaldo Velasco, Administrator of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) and Mr. Ferdinand Dela Cruz, CEO of Manila Water Company Inc. should resign immediately for their failure to deliver water!” sabi naman ni BUHAY Party-list Rep. Lito Atienza.

“They should stop citing statistics and technical requirements for their disastrous non-performance.  Obviously you have failed!  Hindi naiintindihan ng tao ‘yan, 20 million, 100 million liters. Ang naiintindihan ng tao ay ‘yung binuksan nila ang gripo nila one day at wala nang tubig.”

Sinegundahan naman ni Bayan Muna Party-list Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate ang sinabi ni Atienza.

“Dapat talagang papanagutin ang Manila Water at MWSS sa nangyaring ito at para masiguro na ‘di ito mauulit,” ani Zarate, at iginiit na magbayad ng refund ang Manila Water sa mga apektadong customer nito.

Pinagsabihan din nina Caloocan City Rep. Edgar Erice at Manila Reps. Rosenda Ann Ocampo at Manuel Luis Lopez ang mga opisyal ng Manila Water at MWSS dahil sa nangyari.
