HINDI na suntok sa buwan ang tsansa ng atletang Pinoy para makamit ang minimithing gintong medalya sa Olympics.

Iginiit ni 1Pacman party-list Rep. Mikee Romero na mas tataas ang ‘competitive level’ ng atletang Pinoy sa pagpirma ng Pangulong Duterte para maging isang ganap na batas ang Philippine Sports Training Center (PSTC) Act na magbibigay daan para sa pagpapatayo ng mga modern at world class sports center at training facility sa bansa.

Matapos lagdaan ng Pangulo, kagyat din nitong ipinag-utos ang paglalaan ng P3.5 bilyon budget para maipatayo ang mga pasilidad upang maihanda ang mga atleta para sa 2024 Olympics.

“It’s a dream come true for our national athletes because in two years time they will have a modern sports facility that is at par with some of the best in the world,” pahayag ni Romero, isa sa mga nagsususog para maipasa sa Kongreso ang PSTC Act.

“Certainly, this is one of the landmark sports projects under the administration of President Duterte,” aniya.

Ang PSTC Act ay nakalinya sa grassroots sports development programa ng pamahalaan, sa pangunguna ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) na pinamumunuan ni Chairman William ‘Butch’ Ramirez.

“Everything about this PSTC must be a labor of love, graft and corruption free and must meet world-class standards,” pahayag ni Romero, kasama sina Philippine Olympic Committee Chairman at Tagaytay Rep. Bambol Tolentino at Manila Rep. Manny Lopez sa mga nagsulong ng naturang batas.

Ilan sa mabibigyan ng sapat na venue ang mga atleta ng archery, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, bowling, taekwondo, karate, judo, wrestling, cycling (velodrome), dance sport, football, gymnastics, handball, lawn tennis, sepak takraw, shooting, softball, squash, swimming, table tennis, volleyball, wall climbing, water polo at weightlifting.

Sa kabila ng katotohanan na ang P3.5 bilyon ay wala pa sa kalahati ng budget na ibinubuhos ng ibang bansa sa kanilang sports program, iginiit ni Romero na maiibsan ang bigat ng pasanin ng pamahalaan sa pakikiisa at pagtutulungan ng sambayanan, gayundin ang kontribusyon ng sports ‘Godfather’.

Nangako si Romero, chairman din ng United Polo Players Association at team owner ng NorthPort, na sunod na isusulong nila sa Kongreso ang pagbibigay ng karagdagang budget sa PSC.

“That is high in our priority list,” sambit ni Romero. “PSC should not only have sufficient funding but also powers to advance the welfare of national athletes through compensations and rewards.

“Health and livelihood support should also be given not only to national athletes but also to the coaches who have done great service to the country in the past,” aniya.

Ikinalugod naman ni Ramirez ang pagsasabatas ng PSTC Act na aniya’y magbibigay ng dagdag na motibasyon sa mga coach at atleta para higit na magpursige na magtagumpay.
