Hindi aarestuhin si Luis Jalandoni, ang consultant ng National Democratic Front (NDF), na nakatakdang dumalo sa informal peace talks sa bansa.

Ito ang tiniyak ng Malacañang makaraang pabulaanan ni Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo ang pangamba ni Jalandoni na maaaresto ito sa muling pagtapak sa Pilipinas.“Mr. Jalandoni’s intention in returning to the country is to promote the peace talks between their movement and the Philippine governement, he is assured therefore that no arrest will be effected upon his person,” pahayag ni Panelo.

“To think otherwise is contrary to logic for certainly, a successful amicable discussion between the parties cannot be expected when one party’s liberty is—or threatened to be—compromise,” paliwanag niya.

Ang pahayag ng Palasyo ay tugon sa balitang iniurong ni Jalandoni ang plano nitong pag-uwi sa bansa ngayong Nobyembre dahil sa pangamba sa posibleng pag-aresto sa kanya ng pamahalaan.

Una nang nagbanta si Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año na aarestuhin ng awtoridad si Jalandoni at isa pang NDF consultant na si Fidel Agcaoili, pagdating ng mga ito sa bansa.

“Mr. Jalandoni cites the pronouncement of Secretary of the Interior and Local Government Eduardo Año that he would be arrested. Such statement was made when the peace talks was cancelled by the President due to the violations of the ceasefire agreement by the communist rebels,” paliwanag ni Panelo.

Ibinahagi kamakailan ng Pangulo na nais makipagpulong sa kanya nina Jalandoni at Agcaoili para sa posibleng pagbuhay ng usapang pangkapayapaan.
