Tinanggap kahapon ng security guard, na ang pamilya ay minasaker sa San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan kamakailan, ang alok ng gobyerno na isailalim siya sa protective custody ng Department of Justice (DoJ).
Tinanggap ni Dexter Carlos ang alok nang makipagpulong siya kay Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II at kay Witness Protection Program (WPP) Executive Director Nerissa Carpio sa tanggapan ng DoJ sa Maynila kahapon.
“He accepted shelter and other benefits under the WPP,” pagkukumpirma ni Justice Undersecretary Erickson Balmes.

Sinabi ni Balmes na isasailalim si Carlos sa ebalwasyon upang matukoy kung kuwalipikado ito sa WPP.
“If he feels threatened or if he fears for his safety, we will study if he can be placed under the Witness Protection Program which the DoJ administers during the duration of the trial of the case to be filed against the suspects,” saad sa nauna nang pahayag ni Aguirre. “If qualified, we will expedite his admission into the program.”
Bukod sa ayudang legal ng Public Attorney’s Office (PAO), sinabi ni Aguirre na “the Department of Justice is more than willing to extend any assistance that he may need in getting justice for what was done to his family.”
Una nang ipinag-utos ni Aguirre sa National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) na magsagawa ng hiwalay na imbestigasyon sa pamamaslang sa asawa, biyenan, at tatlong batang anak ni Carlos nitong Hulyo 27.
Kaagad na naaresto ng mga awtoridad ang isa sa mga suspek na si Carmelino Navarro Ibañez, 26, binata, construction worker at tubong Negros Occidental, habang pinatay naman ng mga hindi nakilalang salarin ang dalawa pang suspek sa krimen na sina Rosevelt Sorema at Rolando Pacinos.
