RIYADH (AFP) – Sa unang pagkakataon sa Africa, na-detect ang malaria parasite na partially resistant sa artemisinin, ang pangunahing gamot kontra malaria.
“The spread of artemisinin resistance in Africa would be a major setback in the fight against malaria, as ACT (artemisinin-based combination therapy) is the only effective and widely used antimalarial treatment at the moment,” sabi ng lead author na si Arnab Pain, professor sa King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, sa Saudi Arabia, noong Miyerkules.
Nasuri ang drug-resistant malaria parasite sa isang Chinese na bumiyahe mula Equatorial Guinea patungong China.
