Belmonte, inilaglag ng mga kasamahan sa LP

Nagsilbing malaking dagok sa ambisyon ni Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. na muling masungkit ang liderato ng Kamara sa kanyang ikatlo at huling termino matapos magdeklara ng suporta ang mga miyembro ng Visayan Bloc sa speakership bid ni Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez.

Pinangunahan ni Visayan Bloc convenor Negros Occidental Rep. Alfredo “Albee” Benitez ang may 30 kongresista, na karamihan ay mga dating kasamahan ni Belmonte sa Liberal Party, sa paglagda sa isang manifesto sa pagsuporta sa liderato ni Alvarez at sa administrasyon ni Duterte.

“We, the members of the Visayan Bloc, extend our cooperation and support to the incoming Duterte administration in its pursuit for the development and enactment of pro-people and developmental policies and programs for our country,” nakasaad sa manifesto.

“The Bloc also manifests its support to the speakership bid of Congressman Pantaleon Alvarez for the 17th Congress,” dagdag nito.

Kabilang si Iloilo City Rep. Jerry Treñas, pangulo ng isang organisasyon na binubuo ng 45 kongresista, sa mga miyembro ng LP sa Kamara na naglipat-bakod sa kampo ni Alvarez.

Ang iba pang lumagda sa manifesto ay sina Representatives Lucy Torres Gomez (4th District, Leyte); Arthur Defensor Jr. (3rd District, Iloilo); Rene Relampagos (1st District, Bohol); Cesar V.
