Kinasuhan ng graft ang isang dating municipal mayor at isang accountant ng Cortes, Surigao del Sur matapos umanong magpatayo ng isang babuyan sa isang pribadong lupa gamit ang pondo ng gobyerno.

Sinabi ni Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales na napagtibay ng mga OMB investigator na may sapat na ebidensiya upang kasuhan si dating Cortes Mayor Pedro Trinidad Jr. at ang municipal accountant na si Leonidas Coniaberos sa paglabag sa Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.

Ipinag-utos din ni Morales ang pagpapataw ng parusang administratibo na apat na buwang suspensiyon kay Coniaberos.

Lumitaw sa imbestigasyon na nagpalabas umano si Trinidad ng P385,000 mula sa pondo ng munisipalidad para sa pagbili ng construction materials na gagamitin sa pagpapatayo ng isang babuyan sa lupa na pag-aari ng pamilya nito.

“The use of public funds in constructing the piggery building represents loss to the government because it was built on a private land and the family of Trinidad benefited to the extent of the cost of the building,” pahayag ni Morales.
