Nabigyan na ng special permit ang higit 1,000 passenger bus sa buong bansa bilang paghahanda sa dagsa ng pasahero bunsod ng mahabang break sa Semana Santa.
Ayon sa pahayag ng Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) nitong Sabado, Marso 28, ang pamamahagi ng special permit sa 1,297 units ng passenger buses ay layong matiyak na matutugunan ang bawat commuter na uuwi sa kanilang mga probinsya.
Saad pa ng ahensya, inaasahan na nilang mas doble pa ang dami ng mga pasahero dahil sa pagtataas ng mga produktong petrolyo.
“[W]e are also anticipating of additional commuters this time because with the price of gasoline and diesel, some of our kababayan would find it practical to commute than drive their own vehicles,” saad ni LTFRB Chairperson Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II.
Binanggit din ng LTFRB na sa pagkakaloob ng special permit sa bus companies at operators, ang mga ito ay inatasang tiyakin ang roadworthiness ng kanilang mga unit.

Inatasan din ng ahensya ang lahat ng kanilang Regional Directors na magsagawa ng kanilang roadworthiness inspection protocols sa mga bus at iba pang public utility vehicle (PUV) terminals.
“Our goal is to ensure the safety of commuters and other road users by ensuring the road worthiness of buses and other PUVs, as well as the physical and mental readiness of the drivers,” saad ni Mendoza.
Bukod pa sa mga protocol sa road safety, iniutos din ni Mendoza sa mga opisyales ng LTFRB na tiyaking ang operators ng PUV terminals ay sumusunod sa mga batas at regulasyon sa kaligtasan at kaginhawaan ng mga pasahero.
Ito’y matapos mabigyan ng show-cause orders (SCO) ang daan-daang terminal owners at operators dahil sa paglabag sa mga batas at regulasyon ng LTFRB, habang ang ilan dito ay naipasara dahil sa gross violation.
“Aside from the safety of PUVs on the road, we also have to make sure that all passengers are comfortable and treated well inside the terminals,” ani Mendoza.
“There must be no excuses, violators should be called out and asked to explain why they should not be penalized,” dagdag pa ng opisyal.
