Naglahad ng kaniyang paghanga si Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates B. Villegas sa umano’y katapangan ni Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Spokesperson Jay Tarriela sa pagdepensa nito sa teritoryo ng bansa.
Ayon sa naging pahayag ni Villegas sa kaniyang Facebook post noong Miyerkules, Pebrero 11, 2026, sinabi niyang hanga raw siya sa “fearless” o kawalan ng takot ni Tarriela umanong ipagtanggol ang maritime zones at soberanya ng Pilipinas sa umano’y panghihimasok ng bansang China.
“I personally admire your fearless defense of our maritime zones, sovereign by international and domestic law. Many of our people depend on the sea's bounty—God's gifts now threatened by China's encroachments,” pagsisimula niya.
Dagdag pa niya, “This is not merely political but profoundly pastoral, affecting present and future generations' well-being.”

Ani Villegas, binully na raw ng China ang mga mangingisdang Pilipino sa pamamagitan ng pagbomba ng water cannon sa mga ito, may nasaktan na rin, namilitarisado ang mga isla, at hawak na nila ang ilang karagatan ng bansa.
“China has seized vast seas, bullied fisher folk from traditional grounds with water cannons on frail bancas, injured our personnel, and militarized islands near our shores—violating our right to peace,” aniya.
Anang arsobispo, nanatili raw protektahan ni Tarriela ang taumbayan at hinaharap ng mga Pilipino sa kabila ng panghihiya sa kaniya ng umano’y pro-China na mga politiko.
“Despite shaming from pro-China politicians, your stand safeguards God's people and future Filipinos,” pagdidiin niya.
Pagpapatuloy ni Villegas, binibigyang-pugay raw niya ang prinsipyo at pagiging tapat sa sinumpaang tungkulin ni Tarriela.
“We salute your principled statesmanship and fidelity to oath. May the Blessed Mother, Stella Maris (‘Star of the Sea’), protect you: as Pope John Paul II wrote, she is "the favourite title by which people of the sea have called on her in whose protection they have always trusted," with Christ calming storms for seafarers. I assure you of our prayers,” pagtatapos pa niya.
Matapos nito, agad namang nagpasalamat si Tarriela sa pamamagitan ng kaniyang pagbabahagi niya ng pahayag ni Villegas sa kaniyang Facebook post noon ding Miyerkules.
Ani Tarriela, masaya raw siya at ang kaniyang pamilya sa mga mabubuting “words of encouragement” ni Villegas para sa kaniya at binigyan daw siya nito ng lakas at motibasyon para sa pagpapatuloy niyang isulong ang kaniyang tungkulin sa pagtindig sa karapatan ng Pilipinas sa West Philippine Sea.
“Thank you so much for your thoughtful letter, your prayers, and your steadfast support. My family and I are truly grateful for your kind words of encouragement and for keeping me in your thoughts. They bring us real strength and motivation as I carry on my patriotic duty in standing for our rights in the West Philippine Sea,” sagot ni Tarriela.
