Hindi pinalampas ni Miss Earth Philippines 2025 Joy Barcoma ang pahayag ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) chair na si George Garcia kaugnay sa umano’y kasalaan ng mga botante sa pagpili ng mga ihahalal.
“Only voters, or those citizens who do not choose the right leaders, can be blamed for the country’s mess. We should always remember this,” saad ni Garcia sa ginanap na voters’ education forum sa Biliran Province State University sa Naval, Biliran kamakailan.
Ngunit tila hindi sang-ayon si Joy sa paninising ito ni Garcia. Kaya isang Facebook post nitong Martes, Enero 27, iminungkahi niyang baguhin ang kwalipikasyon ng mga kandidato.
Aniya, “How about change in candidates’ qualifications para kahit sinong piliin eh hindi tayo parang circus?”

“If a candidate is involved in any corruption issues,” pagpapatuloy pa niya, “has not served the masses for a certain period of time (community work, not public office), has a criminal record/s, has businesses that can pose as a conflict of interest, and has a family member within the second degree of consanguinity who already holds public office, dapat hindi na po eligible no?”
Sa huli, binigyang-diin ni Joy na dapat magkaroon ng written exam ang mga mambabatas tungkol sa Konstitusyon, batas polisiya, programa at iba pa.
Sa ganitong paraan, mababatid umano ng taumbayan kung gaano nga ba kakonektado sa reyalidad ang mga ihahalal na kandidato.
