Nilagdaan ng Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) at Department of Energy (DOE) kamakailan ang isang kasunduan na naglalayong gawing enerhiya ang basura para tugunan ang polusyon na dulot ng mga basura sa National Capital Region (NCR).
Ang Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) ay nilagdaan nina MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes at DOE Sec. Atty. Sharon Garin noong Miyerkules, Enero 21, para sa kanilang Waste to Energy Project na ico-convert ang solid wastes sa enerhiya, tulad ng kuryente, init, o fuel.
Bukod pa rito, ang nasabing proyekto ay hindi na lang din daw nakatutok sa paglikha ng enerhiya, dahil layon din nitong tumulong sa pagpigil ng polusyon at pangalagaan ang kapaligiran mula sa mga basurang itinatapon sa mga landfill sa NCR.
Dahil ang proyektong ito ay nagsisilbing alternatibong solusyon sa lumalaking pangangailangan sa enerhiya ng bansa, pagbawas ng greenhouse gas emissions, at pagtataguyod ng sustainable development.

Through this partnership, we aim to advance a more effective, resilient, and sustainable approach to solid waste management in Metro Manila," saad ni Artes.
"Together, we share this responsibility to envision a cleaner, greener Metro Manila. We commit to policy alignment, technical cooperation, and information-sharing, allowing national energy objectives to be meaningfully linked with metropolitan planning and operational realities. Our coordination breaks through institutional silos and enables our agencies to jointly explore opportunities and support pilot initiatives," pagsegunda naman ni Garin.
