Itinuturing na resigned na sa Philippine National Police (PNP) si Police General Nicolas Torre III matapos nitong tanggapin ang posisyon bilang general manager ng Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), ayon sa National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) nitong Biyernes.
Sinabi ni NAPOLCOM vice chairperson at executive officer Ralph Calinisan na dahil sa pag-upo ni Torre sa MMDA, awtomatiko itong nangangahulugan ng kanIyang pagbibitiw sa serbisyo ng pulisya, na magbibigay-daan naman para makuha ni PNP acting chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. ang ranggong four-star general.
“With the appointment of Torre to the MMDA, and his acceptance of the post, he has ipso facto resigned from the police force,” pahayag ni Calinisan.
Dagdag pa niya, “This is a very welcome development as this paves the way for Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez, Jr. to get his well deserved four-star rank which accompanies his original appointment as Chief of the PNP.”

Ayon kay Calinisan, ang paglipat ni Torre sa MMDA ay nagbigay ng malinaw na direksyon sa hanay ng PNP, lalo na sa antas ng pamumuno.
“This provides that much needed clarity in the PNP, as Nartatez has full operational accountability and leadership responsibilities for months now,” aniya.
“I am personally looking forward to the donning of the four-star rank to Gen Nartatez by the President,” dagdag pa niya.
Samantala, sa hiwalay na pahayag, sinabi ni PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño na hihintayin ng PNP ang pormal na aksyon ng Malacañang kaugnay ng promosyon ni Nartatez sa ranggong four-star general.
Si Torre ay gumanap ng mahahalagang papel sa ilang malalaking operasyon sa ilalim ng administrasyong Marcos.
Bilang hepe ng pulisya sa Davao Region, pinangunahan niya ang pagsisilbi ng warrant of arrest laban kay religious leader Apollo Quiboloy.
Habang bilang chief ng PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), siya rin ang nagsilbi ng arrest warrant mula sa International Criminal Court (ICC) laban kay dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.
Matatandaang noong Agosto 25 ay inalis si Torre bilang PNP chief at pinalitan ni Nartatez. Isa sa mga binanggit na dahilan sa kanyang pagkakatanggal ay ang umano’y pagsuway sa utos ng NAPOLCOM kaugnay ng reassignment ng ilang matataas na opisyal ng PNP.
