Naglabas ng opisyal na pahayag ang Department of Education (DepEd) kaugnay sa panawagan nilang sapat na pondo upang matugunan ang mga hamong kanilang kinakaharap sa edukasyon.
Ayon sa isinapublikong post ng DepEd sa kanilang Facebook page nitong Martes, Nobyembre 4, sinabi nilang ang suliranin sa “functional literacy” ang isa sa mga pangunahing hamon na nais nilang matugunan.
“The Department of Education is calling for the full and sustained funding of all education mandates to address the country's literacy challenges and give every learner a fair and equal chance to succeed,” pagsisimula nila.

Pagpapatuloy pa ng DepEd, dahil sa suporta ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., na ilalaan nila ang ipagkakatiwalang pondo sa kanila para sa pagkatuto ng bawat mga mag-aaral na Pilipino.
“With the support of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., we are aligning resources, streamlining functions, and focusing on what matters most — foundational learning and literacy recovery,” saad ng DepEd.
Anang DepEd, maraming mga reporma nila para sa edukasyon ang kasalukuyan nang gumugulong para matugunan ang mga hamong matagal nang kinakaharap ng maraming mag-aaral at gurong Pilipino.
“Reforms are already underway: the rollout of a streamlined K-10 and Senior High School curriculum, nationwide training for teachers, the DepEd Principals Academy, expanded classroom construction and textbook procurement, stronger education technology integration, and the deployment of additional administrative officers in schools so teachers can focus more on teaching,” paliwanag ng DepEd.
“Together with all agencies, local governments, and partners, we are making sure that every peso invested in education truly counts for every Filipino learner,” pagtatapos pa nila.
Matatandaang lumobo na sa 24.8 milyon ang bilang ng “functional illiteracy” sa bansa, ayon sa tala ng Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2).

Ayon sa EDCOM 2, ang “functionally illiterate” ay tumutukoy sa mga taong marunong magbasa at magsulat ngunit hindi nakakaintindi.
“EDCOM 2 raised the issue as it expressed concern that one of the reasons was the involvement of the Department of Education in at least 261 interagency bodies, which has diverted DepEd from its principal mandate of providing basic education,” saad ng komisyon sa kanilang Facebook post nitong Lunes, Nobyembre 3.
