Tinutugis pa rin ng mga awtoridad ang tatlong nakatakas na unggoy na may mga dala-dalang umanong sakit mula sa sumalpok na truck.
Sa isang Facebook post ng Jasper County Sheriff’s Department nitong Miyerkules, Oktubre 29, sinabing lulan umano ng truck ang mga rhesus monkey mula sa Tulane University nang mangyari ang insidente.
“The monkeys are approximately 40lbs, they are aggressive to humans and they require PPE to handle,” saad sa post.
Dagdag pa rito, “The monkeys carry hepatitis C, herpes, and COVID. Tulane University has been notified and will send a team to pick up the monkeys tomorrow ( the ones that are still caged).”
Ngunit sa isang hiwalay na pahayag, nilinaw ng Tulane Universtiy na hindi umano sa kanila dadalhin ang mga nasabing unggoy at hindi rin umano nakakahawa ang sakit ng mga ito.
Ayon kay Tulane spokesperson Andrew Yawn, “Non-human primates at the Tulane National Biomedical Research Center are provided to other research organizations to advance scientific discovery.”
“The primates in question belong to another entity and are not infectious. We are actively collaborating with local authorities and will send a team of animal care experts to assist as needed,” dugtong pa niya.
