Hinihimok ng administrasyong Marcos ang mga mambabatas na ipasa ang Freedom of Information (FOI) Bill, isang panawagan sa gitna ng mga kuwestiyon hinggil sa “transparency” at “accountability” sa imbestigasyon ng mga maanomalyang flood control projects sa bansa.
Sa pagbubukas ng Global Conference of the International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI) 2025 sa Pasay City nitong Lunes, Setyembre 29, ibinahagi ni Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Acting Secretary Dave Gomez ang naisin ng administrasyon na pormal nang ipasa ang nasabing batas.
“This week, we heard the voices of Filipinos loudly calling, clamoring for an FOI Law,” saad ni Gomez.
“I take this opportunity to urge our lawmakers, civil society leaders, and fellow public servants to come together in finally enacting the Right to Information Bill for the Philippines, one that upholds global standards and empowers our democracy,” dagdag pa niya.
Inilahad niya rin na mahalaga para sa “survival” ng bawat isa ang “access to environmental data,” dahil prone ang bansa sa mga kalamidad.
“In a nation like ours, where natural disasters are an ever-present threat, access to environmental data is not just a matter of governance—it is a matter of survival,” ani Gomez.
“Through technology, we must ensure that communities, especially the most vulnerable, have the information they need to stay safe, plan, and thrive,” dagdag pa niya.
Umaasa ang administrasyon na sa nasabing dalawang araw, ito ay ang magiging simula ng pagtitibay sa adhikaing magkaroon ng “genuine access of information” ang mga Pilipino.
“May these two days serve as a catalyst for strengthening our shared commitment to institutionalizing genuine access to information for the people. Because in a ‘New Philippines,’ every citizen has the right to ask and be involved,” anang acting secretary.
Matatandaang ang Pilipinas ay ang unang bansa sa Timog-Silangang Asya na pangungunahan ang global conference ng IDUAI ngayong taon, na may temang “Ensuring Access to Environmental Information in the Digital Age.”
