Kinumpirma at kinondena ni Senador Imee Marcos ang hindi pagpirma ni Senate President Chiz Escudero sa contempt order laban kay Special Envoy on Transnational Crime Ambassador Markus Lacanilao, at ang pag-atas niyang palayain ito mula sa detention facility.
Matatandaang sa isinagawang pagdinig ng Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs hinggil sa pag-aresto kay dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte nitong Huwebes, Abril 10, ipina-contempt ni Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa si Lacanilao matapos ang umano’y kuwestiyonableng mga sagot niya.

Samantala, kinumpirma ni Sen. Marcos, chairperson ng komite, na nakalaya na si Lacanilao dahil sa hindi pagpirma ni Escudero sa contempt order para rito.
“Ambassador Markus Lacanilao has now been released-despite being cited in contempt for lying and giving misleading statements on the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte,” ani Marcos.
“As expected, Senate President Chiz Escudero refused to sign the contempt order. Just like he refused to sign the subpoenas. This time, he went even further-he ordered Lacanilao's release, in spite of the ambassador's blatant and repeated lies before the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations,” dagdag niya.
Tinawag din ng senadora ang naturang aksyon ni Escudero hindi lamang bilang “disappointing” kundi “dangerous.”
“When the Senate's authority is ignored this openly, what's the point of investigations? What's the point of truth?” giit ni Marcos.
“We're setting a terrible precedent-and it won't be the last,” saad pa niya.
