Ipatutupad na ng Department of Education (DepEd) ang “Catch-up Fridays” sa buong bansa simula sa Biyernes, Enero 12, 2024.
Sa Memorandum No. 001, s. 2024 ng DepEd, ibinahagi nitong ipatutupad ang Catch-up Fridays sa lahat ng mga eskuwelahan sa elementarya at sekondarya, maging sa community learning centers (CLCs) sa bansa.
Ito ay alinsunod umano sa National Reading Program bilang mahalaga raw na bahagi ng National Learning Recovery Program (NLRP).

“Through the Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) Day, this initiative aims to provide learners with the opportunity to engage in independent silent reading of their preferred material,” pahayag din ng DepEd sa kanilang Facebook post nitong Huwebes, Enero 11.
“Catch-up Fridays is designed to strengthen the foundational, social, and other relevant skills necessary to actualize the intent of the basic education curriculum by focusing on the development of learner's reading, critical thinking, analytical, and writing skills,” dagdag pa nito.
Matatandaang noong Nobyembre 2023 nang ianunsyo ni Vice President at DepEd Secretary Sara Duterte na gagawin nilang “catch-up day” ang bawat araw ng Biyernes upang tulungan daw ang mga estudyante na mahasa ang kanilang reading at literacy skills.
“Every Friday will be catch-up Fridays. Ibig sabihin, wala tayong gagawin kundi turuan ang mga batang magbasa, at ‘yung mga marunong nang magbasa, ituro sa kanila ang critical thinking and analysis. ‘Yung mga marunong na sa critical thinking and analysis, pasulatin n’yo ng libro, pasulatin n’yo ng essays,” saad ni Duterte.
