Kinondena ng Anakbayan ang desisyon ng Commission on Higher Education's (CHED) na tanggalin ang Senior Hight School (SHS) program sa State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) at Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs).

Matatandaang noong Disyembre 18, 2023 ay naglabas ng memorandum ang CHED na ititigil na ang SHS program sa mga SUCs at LUCs bunsod umano ng kawalan na ng legal na basehan para dito.

Kaugnay nito, sa isang pahayag nitong Huwebes, Enero 4, ay iginiit ng Anakbayan na ang naturang hakbang ng CHED ay isang pagpapabaya umano ng kasalukuyang administrasyon sa sektor ng edukasyon at isang pagsuway daw sa karapatan ng mga estudyante sa edukasyon.

“As a result of this, 17,000 students will be displaced starting next school year,” pagbibigay-diin naman ng Anakbayan.

“CHED’s decision to discontinue the Senior High School (SHS) program from SUCs and LUCs, far from it being merely brought by the end of K-12 transition period, exposes the Marcos-Duterte regime’s neglect of the education sector as seen in the lack of adequate funding for education and the government’s overall misprioritization in the 2024 budget,” dagdag pa nito.

Giit pa ng progresibong grupo, ang naturang hakbang ng CHED ay nagpapataas umano ng komersyalisasyon ng edukasyon, lalo na’t mapupuwersa raw dito ang libu-libong mga mag-aaral na lumipat sa mga pribadong institusyon.

“Rather than fulfilling the state’s responsibility to provide education as a public good, the Marcos-Duterte regime is passing the responsibility onto private institutions which put profit above all,” anang Anakbayan.

“In the long term, we call on the youth to fight for the establishment of a nationalist, scientific, and mass-oriented education system. Only through this can we secure our right to education and realize our full potential as youth,” saad pa nito.

Samantala, matatandaan namang iginiit ng Department of Education (DepEd) na mayroon umanong sapat na public schools sa bansa upang malipatan ng mahigit 17,000 na incoming Grade 12 students na maapektuhan ng nasabing pag-aalis ng SHS program sa SUCs at LUCs.
