Idineklara ng Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) nitong Biyernes, Oktubre 20, ang pagsisimula ng northeast monsoon o amihan season ngayong taon.
Sa isang pahayag, ibinahagi ng PAGASA na nanaig sa Northern Luzon ang “strong northeasterly winds” nitong mga nakaraang araw dahil sa paglakas umano ng high-pressure system sa Siberia.
Bukod dito, naobserbahan ang unti-unting paglamig ng surface air temperature sa hilagang-silangang bahagi ng Luzon, maging ang pagtaas umano ng mean sea level pressure.
“These meteorological patterns indicate the onset of the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) season in the country,” saad ng PAGASA.

“With these developments, the northeasterly wind flow is expected to become more dominant in the country, bringing cold and dry air. An episode of wind and cold temperature surges may also be expected in the coming months,” dagdag nito.
Samantala, dahil umano sa ongoing na El Niño, may mataas na posibilidad ng mas mababa sa normal na kondisyon ng pag-ulan, na maaaring magdulot ng mga negatibong epekto, tulad ng tagtuyot sa ilang mga lugar sa bansa sa panahong ito.
“This may adversely affect the different climate-sensitive sectors such as water resources, agriculture, energy, health, public safety, and other key sectors in the country,” paalala ng PAGASA.
