Dodoble ang kaso ng human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) sa bansa ngayong taon, ayon sa Department of Health (DOH).

Sa pagtaya ni DOH National HIV Surveillance Officer Noel Palaypayon, inaasahang umabot sa 364,000 ang maitatalang kaso nito dahil sa patuloy na pagtaas ng nahahawaan sa Pilipinas.

Paliwanag ng opisyal, nakitaan ng pagbaba ng kaso ng sakit sa buong mundo, kabaligtaran naman ito sa Pilipinas.

"We have already seen a 30 percent decrease in annual infections between 2010 and 2021, looking at the global scale. In 2021, based on HIV global data, there are 38.4 million PLHIVs (people living with HIV), 1.5 million were newly infected, and 650,000 have died from AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome)-related illnesses," aniya.

“The new infections are projected to continuously increase in the next years. The estimated PLHIVs in the Philippines could reach 364,000 by 2030 which is a two-fold increase from the estimated PLHIV by the end of 2022," banggit pa ni Palaypayon.

Sa datos ng DOH, aabot sa 112,028 ang naitalang HIV cases sa buong bansa mula 1983 hanggang Pebrero 2023.
