Isinailalim na sa red tide alert ang coastal waters ng Masbate at pito pang lugar sa bansa, ayon sa pahayag ng Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
Sa Facebook post ng BFAR, ang pitong lugar ay kinabibilangan ng coastal waters ng Milagros sa Masbate; coastal waters ng Panay, President Roxas, at Pilar sa Capiz; coastal waters ng Dauis at Tagbilaran City sa Bohol; San Pedro Bay sa Samar; Cancabato Bay, Tacloban City sa Leyte; Dumanquillas Bay sa Zamboanga del Sur; at Lianga Bay sa Surigao del Sur.
Sinabi ng BFAR, nagpositibo sa paralytic shellfish poison (PSP) o toxic red tide ang mga shellfish sa mga natukoy na lugar.
"All types of shellfish and Acetes sp. or alamang gathered from the areas shown are NOT SAFE for human consumption.However, fish, squids, shrimps, and crabs taken from the above-mentioned areas are safe to eat as long as they are fresh and washed thoroughly, with their internal organs such as gills and intestines are removed before cooking," ayon sa abiso ng ahensya.
