Nakaalerto na ngayon ang Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) laban sa posibleng pag-atake ng New People's Army (NPA) na ikinukonsiderang pinakamalaking banta sa seguridad habang papalapit ang 2022 National elections.
Ito ang kinumpirma ni AFP Spokesman Col. Ramon Zagala nitong Linggo, Pebrero 13, at sinabing nagkasundo na ang militar at pulisya na magbantay upang matiyak ang "maayos, mapayapa at kapani-paniwalan" eleksyon sa Mayo 9.
“We can say that the communist terrorist group [is the biggest threat] because they want to influence our elections especially now that they are weakened. They cannot match the force of the Armed Forces of the Philippines so they would want to elect a candidate that they can easily manipulate and threaten,” banggit ni Zagala sa isang radio interview nitng Linggo.
"That’s what we are monitoring right now, the communist terrorist group is really a serious threat,” anang opisyal.

Binabantayan na aniya nila ang pitong lungsod, 39 na bayan kaugnay ng nalalapit na eleksyon dahil na rin sa banta ng mga rebelde at private armed groups (PAGs).
Karamihan aniya sa mga lugar na tinukoy ay matatagpuan sa Mindanao.
"We are looking at the history of violence in previous elections or election-related incidents. From there, the [Comelec] together with the AFP and PNP will declare it as areas that are in need of strict monitoring. These are just general areas per region,” aniya.
Kapag aniya ay idineklarang hotspot ang isang lugar, tututukan na ito ng militar at pulisya upang maiwasang magkaroon ng karahasang posibleng isagawa ng mga terorista at PAGs.
