Isang sunog ang sumiklab kamakailan sa isang local health office sa Zamboanga del Sur dahilan para mapinsala ang nasa 148,678 doses ng coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccines, pagkukumpirma ng awrtoridad nitong Martes, Nobyembre 2.
Isang joint statement mula sa National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19 and Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on the Management of Infectious Diseases ang nagkumpirmang nangyari ang sunog sa isang tatlong-palapag na gusali sa Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Health Office nitong gabi ng Oktubre 31.
Ang nasabing pasilidad ay inokupahan ng iba’t ibang opisina at departamento ng provincial government at nagsilbi ring cold chain storage facility para sa COVID-19 vaccines na laan para sa 26 munisipyo at isang lungsod sa rehiyon.
Base sa inisyal na ulat, napinsala ng sunog ang nasa 9,176 doses ng AstraZeneca, 14,400 doses ng Moderna, 88,938 doses ng Pfizer, at 36,164 doses ng Sinovac.

Nakalaan para sa ikalawang dose ang mga napinsalang AztraZeneca vaccines habang para sana sa pediatric vaccination ang mga napinsalang Moderna doses. Nakatakda sanang i-deploy ang mga bakuna sa Nobyembre 3, Miyekules.
Samantala, bahagi sa mga Pfizer vaccines ay laan sana para sa Pagadian City at pansamantala sanang nailagay sa provincial cold storage habang puno ang ultra-low freezer ng lungsod. Kalahati sa suplay ang dapat nakalaan para sana sa vaccination rollout ng probinsya habang ang matitira ay nakatakdang i-deploy sa ilang lokal na pamahalaan.
Hindi naman agad naihatid ang Sinovac vaccines matapos tanggihan ito at humiling ng ibang vaccine brands ang ilang LGUs.
“The National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19 together with the Department of Health (DOH), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) are closely monitoring developments in the incident’s investigation,”bahagi ng pahayag na nilagdaan nina NTF chief implementer Carlito Galvez Jr., IATF Chairman and DOH Sec. Francisco Duque III, NTF vice chair and DILG Sec. Eduardo Ano, at NTF deputy chief implementer Vivencio “Vince” Dizon.
Naka-standby naman ngayon ang ilang ahensya ng gobyerno para magbigay ng agarang suporta sa vaccination operation sa buong Zamboanga Peninzula (Region 9).
“We would like to assure the residents of Zamboanga del Sur that the NTF and NVOC will replenish all the damaged vaccines especially those meant for citizens who are scheduled to get their second dose soon. The vaccine doses will be shipped immediately as soon as the new cold storage is ready for use,” sabi ng joint statement.
Gumugulong na rin ang imbestigasyon ukol sa insidente.
“May this unfortunate incident be a reminder to all local government units to ensure the safety and security of these life-saving vaccines,” sabi ng task officials.
“Let us keep in mind that vaccines are gold, and one dose equals one life saved. Protecting and ensuring the safety of these vaccines should be a primordial concern of all levels in the government,” dagdag nila.
