Kinumpirma ni Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana sa isang pahayag nitong Huwebes, Marso 31, ang pagkakaroon ng iligal, gawa ng tao na mga istraktura sa ilang features ng Pagkakaisa Banks ng Palawan.
Sinabi ni Sobejana na natuklasan ito saregular maritime patrol (marpat) noong Miyerkules, Marso 30, sa Pagkakaisa o Union Banks na nasa loob ng Kalayaan Islands Group (KIG) sa ilalim ng Munisipalidad ng Kalayaan, Palawan.
“During this patrol we were able to document man-made structures that built on some of the features. These structures are illegal,” sinabi ni Sobejana.

“The Laws of the Sea gives the Philippines indisputable and exclusive rights over the area. These constructions and other activities, economic or otherwise, are prejudicial to peace, good order, and security of our territorial waters,” diin niya.
Ang pagtuklas ay dumating sa gitna ng tumataas na presensya at aktibidad ng mga barkong Chinese sa West Philippine Sea (WPS) nitong nakaraang mga buwan.
“We have already updated our higher civilian authorities such as the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and Department of National Defense (DND) about these offenses to our sovereignty,” sinabi ni Sobejana, na tinutukoy angillegal structures.
“We ensure every Filipino that our efforts to dutifully perform our mandate to protect and advance our national interests in the area continue unhampere,” dagdag niya AFP.
Nauna nang sinabi ng National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea (NTF-WPS) na humigit-kumulang 220 mga barkong Chinese na pinaniniwalaan na pinamumunuan ng mga maritime militia ang nakita sa Julian Felipe Reef, na matatagpuan humigit-kumulang na 175 nautical miles sa kanluran ng Bataraza, Palawan.
Noong Marso 29, sinabi ng NTF-WPS na ang karamihan sa mga barko ay umalis sa Julian Felipe Reef ngunit nagkalat sa iba pang lugar sa WPS at KIG sa Palawan.
