Ang sintomas ng alopecia areata ay biglaang paglagas ng buhok sa katawan, lalo na sa anit o mukha na kung minsan ay may patches with little or no inflammation.

Isiniwalat ito ng 22 taong gulang na kandidata sa kanyang intro video bilang candidate #24 para sa Miss World Philippines. Naka-upload ang clip sa Facebook page ng nasabing pageant.

Ibinahagi ni Kelley Day ang kondisyon habang ipinapahayag ang kanyang adbokasiya “(to) raise consciousness for autoimmune diseases such as psoriasis and alopecia.”

Naging emosyonal, inamin niyang iyon ang unang pagkakataong ibinahagi niya ang tungkol sa kondisyon, na nakuha niya simula pa noong isang taon.“Only a couple of weeks ago have I started treating it properly because I had so much fear and embarrassment about it especially in my line of work where I always get my hair styled, people take photos of me all the time,” aniya.

Through her advocacy, umaasa si Kelley na maintindihan ng publiko na “it’s okay” to be open about it without shame.

“I want people to know how to deal with it properly. With my story I want everyone to feel encouraged to be open about who they are. I want people to see that no one is perfect, really, no one is perfect.”

On a lighter note, ibinahagi rin ni Kelley ang iba pang impormasyon tungkol sa sarili, gaya ng hindi niya pagsusuot ng matching socks at kung paano siya napunta sa Pilipinas.

Nakapagtapos ng high school si Kelley sa Dubai sa edad na 18.

“When I came here I kinda decided to take the creative route and go for my passion in modeling and that turned into a showbiz career,” lahad ng Tarlac City representative.

Kokoronahan ni Miss World Philippines Katarina Rodriguez ang kanyang successor sa Sept. 15 sa Araneta Coliseum.
