UMAASA ang Pilipinas na makapagpapakita ng respetadong performance sa larangan ng petanque sa darating na Southeast Asian Games na idaraos dito sa bansa bago matapos ang taon.

“We plan to participate in overseas training camps and competitions to help our athletes gain enough experience for this biennial event,” pahayag ni Lulet Gonzales-Tiston, ang presidente ng Philippine Petanque Clubs Association.

Isang French outdoor bowls game, ang kompetisyon sa petanque ay gaganapin sa Nobyembre 28, dalawang araw bago ang opening ceremony at magtatapos sa Disyembre 6.

Ang petanque events na paglalabanan ay ang men’s at women’s doubles, at ang men’s at women’s triples.

Bilang hosts, nais ng mga Pinoy na tumapos sa podium kaya naman puspusan ang paghahanda ng national petanque pool sa Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

Inaasahan namang magiging mahigpit nilang katunggali ang Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos ay Vietnam sa petanque medal race.

Ang Petanque ay may hawig sa lawn balls at bocce, ngunit kumpara sa dalawa, nilalaro ito sa graba at metal ang gamit na bola.

“Anybody can play the sport, and learn it fast. As with many bowl games, it takes consistency and concentration, not size and athletic ability,” ayon pa kay Gonzales-Tiston.

Ang Philippine Petanque Clubs Association na miyembro ng Federation Internationale de Petanque et Jeu Provencal (FIPJP) at Asian Boules Sports Confederation (ABSC) at kasalukuyang nag-a-apply para sa membership sa Philippine Olympic Committee.

“We are grateful to the Philippine Sports Commission for their full support to our program,” wika pa ni Gonzales-Tiston.
