“It is a sad day for animal welfare.

“Today, we received a copy of the Resolution of Pasig City Assistant Prosecutor John Y. Ong dismissing the PAWS Complaint versus the Oro movie director and producers Alvin Yapan, Jane Gonzales, Mark Shandi Bacolod and Arriane Dulay for violation of Section 9 of RA 8485.

“PAWS firmly believes that there is probable cause to hold these people criminally liable for violation for the act of making business out of cruelty to an animal and will pursue its legal remedies to reverse the above resolution.

“The accused have not denied the brutal killing of the poor defenseless dog in this case nor have they denied that they filmed and included the same in their movie.

“This is a clear violation of the Animal Welfare Act and should not be excused by either the Prosecutor’s office or society.

“While this news initially was disappointing to our team of volunteers seeking justice for the dogs who were killed in the making of the ORO movie, this development has strengthened PAWS’ resolve to pursue all other available legal actions against the filmmakers.

“Further, PAWS will continue to lobby for and raise awareness about the humane treatment of animals used in film production and in the media and entertainment industry. Animals deserve to be treated with kindness and respect. #justiceforOROdogs #crueltyisnotart.”

Thelma L. Guzman - That assistant prosecutor, John Ong is not an animal lover. Maybe he hasn’t experienced loving & taking care of a dog. Para sa kanya, OK lang pumatay ng aso, either to be eaten or used as props for a film. di bale, PAWS, sa next life, magiging aso din siya - killed for the same purpose.

Daniel Silverio -- It will be a forever curse against their conscience! Sa bawat taong manonood at makikita ang plabas na ito, it will be remembered as a movie where real murder is made! Killing is not art!

Alexis Fulgencio - Guess the people behind the film are all b_llsh_t.

This is a clear violation should not be excused. Duterte baka may under the table na nagyari.

Renz Neric - A Chinese prosecutor who is not concerned about animal welfare? What a shocker! No wonder the miners in gata will never achieve justice their families and the movie staff have been crusading for. They are fighting for selective justice, ot universal. True Justice is not based on your personal beliefs or judgements but on laws based on bills passed under a state. But hey, this is a forever 3rd world country, what did you guys expect?

Anj Ilaga - Irregardless of being an animal lover or not, that Prosecutor Ong should learn the basic. The ability to know what is right and wrong. Disappointing.

Kira Lok – Have any of you taken taken the time to consider that maybe Oro’s crew is not liable for the cruelty involved? Will you stop to consider that in many provinces, such as where they filmed, killing and eating dogs is normal, and they just filmed the deed being done? And if that is the case, their liability lies not in committing an act of animal cruelty but in not reporting it. If so, again many people don’t even know killing dogs is wrong because it’s being done so often in their area.

Stop taking news at face value and try to look at the actual matter at hand. This is unfair of you guys and you are debilitating a production team when they strive to expose the truth of our society, which is the real problem.

(REGGEE BONOAN)
