“ANIMAL CRULTY IN THE MMFF ENTRY ORO. In view of numerous reports we have received that a dog was actually killed in the filming of the movie Oro, PAWS has sent an official request for investigation to the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Executive Committee.
“No animal should be killed or hurt for the sake of making a movie. Responsible film makers should make sure of this not just because animal cruelty is a crime but because it is the right thing to do.
“For those who may have information on the filming of the dog-killing scene, we are calling on them and other witnesses to help PAWS and MMF determine what really happened and to bring animal offenders to justice.
“Email PAWS at [email protected] or philpaws org.ph.
“Thank you.”
May post din si Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) Chair Liza Diño-Seguerra tungkol sa isyu at kuwento niya, pinanood niya ang Oro at naalala niyang lumabas siya ng sinehan na disturbed dahil sa “dog scene -- very graphic and the act of gutting the dog looked so REAL. I immediately called the representatives from Oro production to verify if real animals were harmed during the filming of the movie.
“They said no —A goat was used and some prosthetics to make it look real. I was somehow appeased, and was also being careful about crossing the line (artistic cals of the director) so I didn’t push the issue. As long as may assurance na walang pinatay na totoong aso, subjective na if the scene should be deleted, changed or replaced. Paulit-ulit kaming nagtanong, they said magaling lang ang pagkakagawa kaya nagmukhang totoo.
“Since the movie opened, I’ve been receiving calls and texts from various groups about the Dog Scene but I keep on saying ‘it’s not real’ because that was the information given to me.
“Recently, it was brought to our attention that there were reports about a real dog being killed during the filming of the movie.
“The Philipine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) also sent a letter to MMDA Chairman Tim Orbos requesting for an immediate investigation on the matter after receiving numerous complaints regarding the ‘animal cruelty’ scene.
“To be clear, the MMFF executive committee does not condone such acts nor allow the Festival to be the vehicle for such actions; we acted in good faith when the producers stated that there were no such incidents of animal cruelty during the filming of the movie.
“We take these matters seriously and take action if necessary. On Monday, January 2, 11am, MMFF executive committee is conduction an inquiry to investigate about the issue/ We have summoned the production of ORO and PAWAS for a meeting to discuss and clarify the issue.”
Mamaya na ang meeting na binanggit ni FDCP Chair Liza, hintayin natin ang magiging resulta ng pag-uusap at ang hakbang na kanilang gagawin sa mapapatunayang nagkasala. (NITZ MIRALLES)
