“Concerning the incident of Filipino journalist Gretchen Ho’s mother, a Filipino tourist, who was not allowed to exchange US dollars at the forex stall at Oslo airport, the Department of Foreign Affairs, through the Philippine Embassy in Oslo contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Financial Supervisory Authority of Norway, for an explanation,” anang DFA.
“It was found out that the forex stall at Oslo airport is following an outdated list, which still includes the Philippines in the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list. The FATF grey list identifies countries that have deficiencies in their anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing regimes,” dagdag pa nito.
“The Philippines was officially removed from the FATF grey list in February 2025, and the EU grey list in August 2025, following the introduction of rigorous reforms that fortified the integrity of the Philippines’ financial system and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to combating financial crimes,” anila.
“The Norwegian Foreign Ministry officials committed to follow up with the Financial Supervisory Authority of Norway to update and delist the Philippines on the forex companies’ list of countries with high risk for money laundering or terrorist financing,” dagdag pa nito.
“One of our family members traveling abroad got denied at the foreign exchange counter at the Gardermoen Airport in Oslo, Norway. Lady at the counter goes — ‘You came from the Philippines? We cannot exchange your dollars because of the corruption and money laundering in the Philippines’,” ani Gretchen.
