Nanghihinayang ang Malacañang sa pagbibitiw ni Baguio City Mayor Benjie Magalong bilang special adviser ng Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), ngunit idiniing patuloy na sisiguruhin ng komisyon ang “transparency” at “accountability” sa imbestigasyon ng mga proyektong pang-imprastraktura ng pamahalaan.

Ibinahagi ng Presidential Communications Office (PCO) sa kanilang website nitong Sabado, Setyembre 27, ang kanilang pahayag ukol sa pagbaba ni Mayor Magalong sa puwesto nito sa ICI.

“It is unfortunate Mayor Magalong resigned,” saad ni PCO Secretary Dave M. Gomez.

Idiniin naman ng PCO na ang tiwala ng publiko sa komisyong binuo upang imbestigan ang anomalya at iregularidad sa infrastructure projects sa bansa ay mas malaki pa sa kahit sinong indibidwal, at nararapat na magpatuloy ang imbestigasyon dala-dala ang responsibilidad nito nang walang “political interference.”

“The demand of the Filipino people from the Independent Commission for Infrastructure is higher than any one person,” anang kalihim.

“The Commission, made up of distinguished professionals with unassailable integrity, has hit the ground running on Day 1. The Palace respects the autonomy of the Commission. Let’s allow them to do their job and deliver on their mandate,” dagdag pa niya.

Matatandaang isinumite ni Mayor Magalong ang kaniyang resignation letter kay Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. nitong Biyernes, Setyembre 26.

“The Palace's pronouncements concerning my designation, which run contrary to the terms of my appointment, have undermined the role and mandate entrusted to me,” ani Magalong.
