Inaanyayahan ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. ang lahat ng mga ahensya ng gobyerno na suportahan ang Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) kaugnay sa pangunguna nito sa selebrasyon ng ika-50 anibersaryo ng “Thrilla in Manila.”
Ibinahagi ng Presidential Communications Office (PCO) nitong Miyerkules, Setyembre 24, ang dikrektibang ibinaba ni PBBM hinggil sa nasabing pagdiriwang.
“Upon the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., all government agencies were urged to extend full support to the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) in leading the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the historic ‘Thrilla in Manila,’ scheduled from October 26 to 31, 2025,” ani PCO.
Sa ilalim ng Memorandum Circular No. 99, binigyang-diin ni Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin na ang labanang Muhammad Ali at Joe Frazier o mas kilala bilang “Thrilla in Manila” na ginanap noong Oktubre 1, 1975 sa Araneta Coliseum, ay hindi lamang simpleng labanan, bagkus ito ay isang “cultural moment” na nagpakilala sa Pilipinas sa global stage noong mga panahong iyon.
“All government agencies and instrumentalities, including government-owned or -controlled corporations, are hereby directed, and all LGUs, non-government organizations, and the private sector, are hereby encouraged, to extend full support and assistance to PSC in the successful celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Thrilla in Manila,” mababasa sa MC 99.
“The success of the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Thrilla in Manila requires the active participation of all concerned government agencies and instrumentalities, as well as the support of local government units (LGUs) and the private sector,” dagdag pa nito.
Ibinigay sa PSC ang mandatong pangunahan ang programa, mangasiwa sa mga polisiya, at ibaba sa iba’t ibang ahensya at “national sports promotion and development” ang magiging direksyon ng nasabing selebrasyon.
Binigyang-diin din ng MC no. 99 na ang “state policy” ay iprayoridad ang edukasyon, agham, teknolohiya, sining, kultura, at isports, at iba pa — upang mapalago ang pagkamakabayan ng bawat isa.
Matatandaang nag-courtesy call ang Pambansang Kamao na si Manny Pacquiao kay PBBM noong Huwebes, Agosto 28, hinggil sa paghingi nito ng suporta sa Pangulo sa gaganaping selebrasyon.
