Inilatag ni Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. ang agarang solusyon kaugnay sa oversupply na prutas at gulay taun-taon.
Sa inorganisang press briefing ng Presidential Communications Office (PCO) nitong Martes, Enero 16, inusisa si Laurel Jr. kung paano malulutas ng ahensya ang problemang ito.
“Ang immediate solution dyan…is what I have mentioned a while ago is cold storage for them to extend the shelf-life. We can also process that into something else but that has to be determined,” saad ni Laurel Jr.
“But extension of shelf-life alone will actually solve most of the problem. But there are so many ways to preserve it ‘no? Using nitrogen, using cold room with nitrogen and many other ways,” aniya.

Dagdag pa ng kalihim, bunga umano ng poor planning ang overproduction.
“It’s a whole ecosystem na kailangan nating i-refine with the DA, of course, and the LGU, and the cooperatives of the farmers,” pahayag niya.
Samantala, natalakay naman sa naunang bahagi ng press briefing ang tungkol sa mga umano’y napesteng sibuyas sa Nueva Ecija. Pero ayon kay Laurel Jr. pinag-aaralan pa rin daw niya hanggang ngayon kung paano ma-address ang nasabing problema.
