“Thank you to everyone who watched [GomBurZa] at MMFF (Metro Manila Film Festival)! ❤️‍🔥 I’d like to share a few tidbits about how we made the movie: The film was shot in 17 days in Taal, Batangas; Tayabas, Quezon; and Intramuros, Manila,” ani Diokno sa kaniyang Instagram post kalakip ang behind-the-scene photos ng paggawa nila ng GomBurZa film.

“Production designer [Ericson Navarro] created a deck that was 801 pages long, with visual references and archival material. Cinematographer [Carlo Canlas Mendoza] created a special candlelight rig for the film,” kuwento ni Diokno.

Enchong Dee sa ‘GomBurZa’: ‘This film will go beyond my life’

“Our ‘dean’ was historical consultant Fr. Rene B. Javellana. (You’ll see him in the second photo, setting up the ordination scene.) Our primary sources were the writings of the late Fr. John Schumacher,” dagdag niya.

“[Cedrick Juan] is an intensely disciplined yet emotionally intuitive actor. You should see his script, how full of notes it was. He didn’t just research Burgos, but also the characters around him. And he worked to make Burgos human, plotting his character arc from start to end.

[Enchong Dee] is unassumingly powerful. He did deep psychological work on the tricky character of Zamora, who was the most relatable, with his weaknesses and frailties. His silent descent into madness would have been easy to exaggerate, but Enchong did it so perfectly, with care and grace.

And what a privilege to work with Mr. Dante Rivero. His discipline, generosity, and humility. At 77 years old, he drives himself to set. In between shots, he waits patiently by the camera, and we would often talk about his work, his passion for diving, and politics.”
