Naglabas ang Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) ng tsunami warning sa Surigao Del Sur at Davao Oriental matapos tumama ang magnitude 6.9 na lindol sa baybayin ng Surigao Del Sur nitong Sabado ng gabi, Disyembre 2.

“Based on the local tsunami scenario database, it is expected to experience wave heights of more than one meter above the normal tides and may be higher on enclosed bays and straits. Destructive tsunami is expected with life threatening wave heights,” pahayag ng Phivolcs.

“It is forecasted that the first tsunami waves will arrive between 10:37 PM to 11:59 PM, 02 Dec 2023 (PST). These waves may continue for hours,” saad pa nito.

Dahil dito, inirerekomenda ng Phivolcs na agad na lumikas at magtungo sa matataas na lugar ang mga residente sa costal areas ng Surigao del Sur at Davao Oriental.

“Owners of boats in harbors, estuaries or shallow coastal water of the above-mentioned provinces should secure their boats and move away from the waterfront. Boats already at sea during this period should stay offshore in deep waters until further advised,” saad ng Phivolcs.

Matatandaang nauna nang inihayag ng Phivolcs na yumanig ang magnitude 6.9 na lindol 42 kilometro ang layo sa hilagang-silangan ng Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur dakong 10:37 ng gabi.
