Isang bagong species ng orchid ang nadiskubre sa Allah Valley Protected Landscape (AVPL) sa South Cotabato, ayon sa Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Sa ulat ng DENR Soccsksargen nitong Huwebes, Nobyembre 23, inihayag ng Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office-South Cotabato, sa pangunguna ng biologist na si Aljohn Jay L. Saavedra at dating biologist na si Kier Mitchel E. Pitogo, ang pagdiskubre at paglalarawan sa bagong orchid species na “𝘗𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘢 𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘢.”

“The breakthrough occurred in the mossy forest, situated at an elevation above 1500 meters within the Mt. Busa Key Biodiversity Area,” anang DENR Soccsksargen.

“Standing at 50 cm, the 𝘗𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘢 𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘢 stands out with its distinctively bell-shaped or campanulate, crystal-white flowers. The initial sighting took place during the Biodiversity Monitoring System (BMS) conducted in the AVPL back in 2021,” dagdag nito.

Ang 𝘗𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘢 𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘢 umano ang unang orchid species na inilarawan mula sa Mt Busa Key Biodiversity Area, na nagbibigay-diin sa kahalagahan ng patuloy na field biodiversity surveys sa “biologically underexplored forests” ng southern Mindanao.

Itinalaga ng preliminary classification ng mga may-akda ang bagong species bilang "Near Threatened," base sa pamantayang itinatag ng International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), dahil sa limitado umanong empirical field data na available hinggil dito.
