Nais ni Albay Representative Joey Sarte Salceda na gawing patas ang pagpataw ng mandatory premium contributions ng Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) sa Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) na aabot sa P38,400 kada taon.
“For OFWs, it’s too expensive. And the question is very simple: what do they stand to gain from PhilHealth contributions when they can’t go to Philippine hospitals abroad?” anang chairperson ng House Committee on Ways and Means.
Ito ang kanyang pahayag matapos batikusin ng mga OFW ang mandatory contribution bago makaalis ng bansa para magtrabaho abroad.
“That’s more expensive, frankly, than most general life insurance coverages. And for what? An OFW can’t avail of PhilHealth coverage while abroad. So, it’s literally for nothing on their end,” dagdag ng mambabatas.

Dahil dito, nangako si Salceda na isusulong niya sa 19th Congress ang pag-amyenda ng buong sistema ng kontribusyon na nauna na niyang inilatag via House Bill 7570.
“I hope to work with the next Secretary of Health and SOF Diokno on reforming the PhilHealth. I do hope that reforming healthcare is among the top of President BBM’s list,” ani Salceda.
Sa ilalim ng panukalang batas, ang hepe ng Department of Finance ang itatalagang Chair of the Board. Sa parehong panukala, bubuo ng isang national health database para sa lahat ng claims at benefits na nakukuha mula sa PhilHealth.
Ito'y bahagi pa rin ng pagsisiguro na maiiwasan ang anumang tangka ng korapsyon sa ahensya.
