"So much to be grateful for to Michael Purugganan and Joan Maniego, two Filipinos who helped Jillian and Xyza Bacani (the one beside Jillian) survive NYU," saad ng bise presidente sa kaniyang Facebook post nitong Huwebes, Mayo 19.

"When Jillian was accepted to NYU and was only initially granted partial scholarship, I told Jillian we still could not afford the balance. She then proceeded to apply for additional scholarships and Michael, who was then Dean of Science, was one of those she wrote. Michael sought the help of Joan, Tisch Chief of Staff, and together, they helped Jillian out," ani Robredo.

"Eventually, Jillian worked 20 hours per week as a lab assistant at the Center for Genomics and Systems Biology for 4 years.

"Both of them were also instrumental in helping Xyza, a very talented and inspiring Filipina, we are very proud to call our very own. Thank you, Michael and Joan. And Alex, of course. You are heaven-sent," dagdag pa niya.

"Appreciation post to my brother-in-law David M Austria and my sister-in-law Jocelyn R Austria for being Jillian’s second parents in the US.

"Even if Dave and Jo live two states away, they come to Jillian’s rescue all the time. Tawag namin sa kanila, aming IMF. Our benefactors, life savers, many roles combined. Many things become possible for us because of them," pagbabahagi ng bise presidente.

Nakapagtapos si Jillian ng double degree in Mathematics and Economics sa New York University kamakailan.
