NAPILI ng Dance Sports Council of the Philippines ang pambato na isasabak sa 30th Southeast Asian Games matapos ang isinagawang 1st quarter competition and rankings nitong weekend sa Ballroom Hall ng Valle Verde Country Club sa Pasig City.

Sa pamumuno ni DSCPI President Becky Garcia, kabuuang 400 kalahok ang nakibahagi sa kompetisyon sa pagtataguyod ng Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee at Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation.

“We have very good dancers. But of course other countries are also very good and so we have to make sure that we can compete with them. The only advantage that I know the other countries have is that they send their athletes abroad for training because they are well-funded,” pahayag ni Garcia sa panayam ng Manila Bulletin Sports Online.

Napili para katawanin ang Philippines sa biennial meet na gaganapin sa bansa sa Nobyembre sina Michael Angelo Marquez at Stephanie Sabalo sa Latin discipline category, habang sina Wilbert Aunzo at Pearl Marie Caneda, gayundin ang tambalab nina Gerald Jamili at Cherry Clarice Parcon-Jamili ang alternates.

Sa Standard discipline, nanguna ang tambalan nina Sean Mischa Aranar at Ana Leonila Nualla laban kina Mark Jayson Gayon at Mary Joy Renigen at sa magkasanggang sina Tristan John Ducay at Aileen Patrice De Lara.

Sa SEA Games, inamin nina Aranar at Nualla na mabigat ang kanilang laban higit at umaasa ng panalo ang hometown crowd.

“It’s always harder to perform here. Mararamdaman mo talaga yung bansa and may makikita kang familiar faces. But then again, it is part of our training to transform this nervousness or pressure into something positive,” sambit ni Nualla.

“Performing in front of your hometown, there is pressure. We just have to face it and deal with it,” ayon kay Aranar.
