“She led a very simple childhood in a very small town in Bicol. They didn’t have much but she has lots of brothers and sisters. They were a big family. She moved to Bahrain where she met my dad. She and my dad came from a very different background. He’s from England and she’s from the Philippines. Growing up, I get the best of both worlds because they taught me the values that were important to each of them. My mom always wants us to work hard. She always taught us to be respectful and mindful of other people’s feeling,” sabi ni Rachel sa aming exclusive interview sa Bb. Pilipinas office sa Cubao, Quezon City.

Paano nga ba mag-goodbye ang ilang Gen Zs bago mag-New year?

Just because of the memories, I would sing Mama by the Spice Girls. I used to sing that to her.”

“I love her so much because from the start, she has been supportive of whatever I want to do, whatever job I want, as long as it’s good for me. And of course, sometimes I go down to the paths that aren’t really good but at the end of the day, she always chooses to give me that motherly love,” sabi ni Mariel.

Dagdag pa niya: “I know she loves Barbra Streisand. I want to sing her Nothing’s Gonna Harm You from Sweeney Todd.”

“My mother, she is my rock, she is my everything. I’m the only daughter. I would say I was spoiled. I’m 26 now and she’s still going strong with her support. She told me, ‘unless you’re married, I would always be here to help you.’ Whatever I decide to do in life, she supports me. So I guess my win is her win, too,” sabi ni Chanel.

Sabi ng Filipino-Australian beauty queen, aawitan niya ang ina ng I Believe I Can Fly. “I don’t know but every time I was asked to sing a song, I always sing I Believe I Can Fly and now it’s in the news. So I don’t know.”

Bubbly at caring ang paglalarawan ni Bb. Pilipinas Grand International Elizabeth Clenci sa kanyang ina. “She studied in Cebu and she’s one of seven children. She doesn’t always show it through affection but she shows it though her action.”

“That’s her favorite song by the Bee Gees and Celine Dion. I sang that during the Independence Day in Canberra for the Filipinos. She would tell me, ‘Day!

Please sing that song, it’s my favorite.”

Inspirasyon ni Bb. Pilipinas Globe Nelda Ibe ang kanyang ina. “My mother gave birth to 10 children. From the eldest I’m the sixth. So I really salute my mother. She’s been an inspiration for me. Lahat ng ginagawa ko para sa kanya. So I want to be like her. Pero ‘wag naman ‘yung 10 children. I can’t do that.”

“When I hear that song it reminds me of my mom. Napapaiyak talaga ako.”

Ayon kay Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental Katarina Rodriguez, nalungkot siya na hindi siya napanood ng kanyang ina sa finals.

“She’s in the States right now. I was so sad she was not able to see the pageant. She was really born to be a mother. She loves children and she’s particular about how the bed should be, how the house should be. I really admire her for that. I know when I have a lot of kids she’s gonna be there helping me out,” ani Rodriguez.

“The song is Everglow by Coldplay. It’s one of their newer song. A bit of sad, happy song. It will hit you in the heart.”

SINGLE MOMS

“More power to them. I have two dogs and they’re like my children. And when my boyfriend is away, ‘Oh my God! I need help!’ How much more the kids? And so I have huge respect for them. They’re mom, they’re dad. They do everything,” sabi ni Rachel Peters.

Ayon kay Elizabeth Clenci:”I think they are an empowered women. That’s one version of an empowered woman - to be able to single-handedly raise a child. It’s difficult. I’ve done baby sitting so I think it’s difficult.”

“I have to say that they have doubled the work and I really respect them for that. That’s hard. That’s really hard. I was trying to take care of my brother when he was here and I’m not even his mom and I’m just his sister. Imagine single moms who have more than one child. So I have to say that I give them a lot respect and I believe everyone should give them respect for the fact that they are raising kids by themselves,” wika naman ni Katarina Rodriguez.
