Nag-isyu ang World Health Organization (WHO) Philippines ng guidance hinggil sa paggamit ng Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) sa paglapit sa mga taong may Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

Ito’y kasunod ng isyu kaugnay sa pagdalaw ni Acting Health Secretary Janette Garin at Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief of staff General Gregorio Catapang Jr. sa Pinoy peacekeepers, na naka-quarantine sa Caballo Island dahil sa Ebola, ng walang kaukulang protective gear.

Ayon sa WHO Philippines, maaari lamang mahawa ng Ebola kung nagkaroon ng direct contact ang isang tao sa body fluid ng isang infectious person. Nagiging infectious ang isang pasyente ng Ebola kung ito’y nakitaan na ng mga sintomas ng sakit.

“Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) refers to a range of specialized clothing which is worn to protect those who are directly responsible and engaged in the care of people who are displaying the symptoms of Ebola. It can include face cover, head cover, protective foot wear and gowns or coveralls,” paglilinaw ng WHO Philippines.

“The use of PPE is essential when in close contact with a person who is displaying the symptoms of Ebola. PPE should only be worn by those people that have been trained in the correct way to use it,” dagdag dito.

Kung nangangalaga naman sa Ebola patient, ang PPE ay dapat na maging bahagi ng mga panuntunan upang maiwasan ang pagkahawa mula sa sakit, kabilang na ang kaukulang pasilidad para sa barrier nursing at work organization, water and sanitation, hand hygiene, at waste management.

Ayon sa WHO Philippines, limitado ang suplay ng PPE sa buong mundo at dapat na gamitin lamang ito kung kinakailangan.
