Tinalakay nina Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. at French President Emmanuel Macron nitong Miyerkules ang usapin sa seguridad sa West Philippine Sea (WPS).

Kinumpirma ni Presidential Communications Office chief Cheloy Garafil nitong Huwebes na nakipag-usap si Marcos kay Macron sa pamamagitan ng telepono.

“In the initial part of their phone conversation, the two leaders discussed the security issues facing the Philippines in the West Philippine Sea,” anang opisyal.

Sinabi rin aniya ni Marcos kay Macron na ginagawa nito ang lahat upang "mapanatili ang kapayapaan at katatagan sa WPS.

“But may I thank France for all the support that you have given us in terms of our shared values, in terms of following the international law, especially UNCLOS (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea) and it has been of great help the messages of support and even when you sent French vessels to come and patrol. So I have to thank you, Mr. President, and France,” pahayag ni Marcos kay Macron.

Pinag-usapan ng dalawang lider ang usapin sa WPS sa gitna ng namumuong tensyon sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at China dulot na rin ng patuloy na pananatili ng mga barko ng China Coast Guard at Chinese Maritime Militia sa bahagi ng karagatang nasa exclusive economic zone ng bansa.
